The Vineyard
The Double L Vineyard’s location in the northern end of the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA is widely regarded as one of the best spots for growing world-class Pinot Noir. Planted on east facing terraces overlook- ing the Salinas River Valley, the north-south vineyard row orientation provides optimum sun exposure and access to the strong afternoon breezes. The winds moderate the afternoon temperature, thickening the grape skins and concentrating flavors. The vineyard has been Certified Organic since 2002, making it the first SLH vineyard to be achieve both organic and sustainable certifications.

Whole berry fermenta- tion started with native yeasts in small, open top tanks. Supple texture and soft tannins are the result of daily manual punch downs. After fermentation, the wine was transferred into a combination of 50% new oak, along with one and two year-old barrels. <br></span><span font-family:="" \"\\"\\"\"""="" style="" \"\\"\\\\\\\\\\"\"""=""><br><u><strong>The Experience</strong></u><br>Morgan’s 2011 Double L Pinot Noir presents aromas of pomegranate, pepper spice and smoky oak with hints of leather and cedar. Flavors of black cherry and strawberry are backed by a deft touch of toasty oak and structuring tannins. In 2005, Gianni Abate joined Morgan as winemaker, allowing Dan Lee to concentrate on developing the Double L Estate. The creative partnership between Dan and Gianni has proved highly successful, taking the Morgan portfolio to new heights in quality and popularity.
