The Season
Australia is blessed with seemingly random weather fluctuation, brought about by the relative temperatures of the Pacific and Indian oceans, to our North. On most occasions it is the dry hot “El Nino” that we notice and remember, but in early 2011 the girl child “La Nina” brought Adelaide its record highest rainfall. In each of the first three months of the year, Adelaide and surrounds experienced rainfall heavy enough to cause significant flooding, and there was catastrophic flooding in parts of northern NSW and southern Queensland.

The consequence of such conditions is always disease, starting with Powdery Mildew (which is what your Zucchini get) and progressing to Botrytis or Bunch rot (which is what your Strawberries get). Fortunately the combination of expert vineyard contractors and the Mollydooker’s own canopy management system meant that they escaped relatively unscathed. Because vintage was a little later than usual Mollydooker had some underemployed cellar hands who cut off any diseased bunches in the only two (lowest) spots affected. So the Mollydooker harvested crop was very clean.

The Process
The grapes were grown on the Gateway and Kirwin Vineyards in McLaren Vale.  Barrel fermented and matured in 90% new and 10% one year old American oak.

Mollydooker was founded in 2005 by a fun-loving husband and wife team, Sarah and Sparky Marquis.  The pair met in winemaking college and for Sparky, it was love at first sight.  Sarah and Sparky shared a passion for life, winemaking, entrepreneurship, and left handedness.  A left-handed couple is rare, add on the love for winemaking, it's even more rare - therein gave to the rise of Mollydooker.  Mollyfooker is an Australian slang for "left-hander".
 
Mollydooker winery is situated along the southern coast of Australia in a city just outside of Adelaide called McLaren Vale. Adelaide’s climate is cool and rainy in the winter and hot and dry in the summer ideal for growing grapes.  In combination with the growing conditions and the Marquis' trademark vineyard watering system, "Marquis Vineyard Watering Programme"™ (a method that gave way to exceptional fruit), Mollydooker has crafted award winning and highly rated wines.
